The work, titled Procession of Reparationists , is inspired by the ex-industrial vocation and workers of the Great Reparations Officine. The black metal sculpture consists of a procession of figures with a strong significance and symbolic value, as it alludes to the work of repairing trains and bodies. As such, the exhibition explores the studio space as a site of performance. In the role of the protagonist of his artworks, Kentridge appears to probe and question the ideas and processes of vision and creativity.

Kentridge engages with question surrounding the creative potential of virtual reality within the field of contemporary art practice and production, and the potential inter- and multidisciplinary practices that exist between the arts and digital technology.

It appears that most of the effort on Ludwig drum dating focused on the Keystone badge drums. I think that most sources are in general agreement when it comes to this era of drums. Of the three Ludwig dating charts presented on the vintagedrumguide http:

Ludwig Drum Company History. Welcome to the Ludwig Drums History section of the web site.

The toms and snare are all painted a gold color and there is not any wrap under the paint. These drums all have nickle hardware. Nickle polishes up nicely with a little elbow grease and Cape Cod cloths. It has a really deep lustrious look to it once you polish it. I added the bass drum after I picked up the other drums. The bass is missing some wrap, but is thankfully somewhat hidden when set up.

They really changed the strainer design – which can be reflected and seen in the Ludwig Catalogs. I’ve been talking about the first pic the entire time! That’s the one that was posted earlier in the thread. This is probably why we’re all all over the map on this dating. It IS Super Ludwig as we’ve both stated , but it’s from the 30’s. I thought the one in the first pic was the sampled snare. The mount is wider. Thus, my opinion on the strainer template.

Since I have not had the second image’s strainer your sampled one one in my possession, I do not know it is less width for sure.

What Takamine is this? I was a Takamine wholesale salesman from to when the Takamine F came about. The CF Martin Company in Nazareth, PA, had commissioned the Takamine Company to develop a line of guitars that could be sold as an underneath line to the Martin guitar that were becoming very pricy. When the line was ready to be marketed, Martin demanded that Coast Wholesale Music, the company I worked for, also sell Rogers drums, horns, and etc.

Coast was already selling Ludwig drums and other horns so there wasn’t the need. The F is a F with an altered headstock and a mustache bridge, changes in the appearance from the D look-alike. In fact, there were ads on TV and in magazines with bags over the headstocks asking the customer to compare the Martin with the Takamine.

Ludwig 3-ply questions criz p. I just bought an almost pristine 24×14 in white cortex. So I figure it’s early 70s. But I’d like to better date it, if possible, as well as understand more re: I’ve searched the forums already, but couldn’t find any answers to my specific questions. But by , as I understand it, they had moved to the 6-ply shells.

Can anyone explain the discrepancy? I also have 3 other 3-ply drums, toms, that all have 7-digit serials: Thanks in advance for any help! Anyway, my understanding is that the ’70s six ply shells came about in The granitone was used towards the end of the ’70s 3-ply or “clear maple” era, although it does appear on some earlier drums, if badge dates are to be believed.

Vintage Drum Guide Search our web sites! I get emails all of the time with a basic drum description and a serial number from visitors in hopes I can unlock the history of their drum. I think in general serial numbers do play an important role in the commercial market especially electronics and other high end items. In the 60’s Insurance companies made it mandatory that serial numbers be put on items so they can be documented.

Unfortunately drum companies never really prescribed to any code of documenting a drum based on that serial number. In fact I once heard that they started using serial numbers not for their own use per say but so schools and institutions could keep track of instruments in inventory. I also get people asking what factory a drum might have shipped from or the exact month a drum was made or even the production numbers etc. The ever important serial number which some companies keep detailed records of unfortunately does not exist in the history of drums.

We also have to state that much of the record keeping was archaic at best and in some cases history was destroyed in plant fires or just tossed in the garbage!. With that said many drum companies never even used serial numbers early on. In most cases the best way to estimate the date of a drum is its physical characteristics. Fortunately drum companies since the 40’s were good at printing catalogs.

After more than thirty years of innovation and tireless dedication to improving the way drum products are made, DW drums, pedals and hardware are the standard by which all others are measured. To get here, it takes more than a working knowledge of the instrument or a few good ideas; it takes a true passion for designing and manufacturing the very best.

It all began in when Don, at age 26, opened a small teaching studio in Santa Monica, Calif. He called the studio Drum Workshop, offering both private lessons and monthly workshops. The day I got my driver’s license, I started driving to teach at a local music store where I had taken lessons. I don’t think you’re going to be one of them’,” John says laughing. Hiring John as a part-time sales manager, the two spent hours discussing different ways to improve the art of drumming through improving drum products.

Before we knew it, we were working together. Don’s new design for a height-adjustable trap-case seat.
